Ugly Knits

All images are from the latest Mary Maxim catalogue, which the previous woman (religious mother of a growing family who incidentally shares the same first name as my mum) who lived in my house subscribed to and which we still get sent anyway.. I'm into the saintly bizarro grandma look. I come from cold-ass-fuck Canada so anything that looks like a blanket is something I want to wear. Mmm delicious warmth.

Elf slippers
I would like to see some patterns for non-christening adult bonnets.

If this is a christian knitting store then why the hell is there a baby with thigh-high socks on? I would wear this. Sexiest look and its on a baby, religious knitters are weird.

This pin is bizarre, its a gold safety pin with Christmas trinkets and a watch. Holiday steam-punk grandma.
What a fantastic gift idea, just knit a faux-gift over a tissue box.

Red Hot

Merry X-mas. Hot hot red.

Corset Bodysuits

Corset bodysuits should be worn, not as lingerie or an undergarment, but as everyday apparel. The flimsy lingerie ones wouldn't work, it would have to be something more durable and utilitarian, like a real corset. Maybe wear some neon tights with it to get that casual 80's look.

I look like an Anne Geddes baby

My my my poker dress my my poker dress

Made by John Petrey

As fun as it would be to wear a dress made from cards, broken rulers, bottle caps, roof shingles and some other objects, I don't think it would be very practical. I guess that's why this is considered fine art and not fashion.

Edward Gorey designs The Mikado

For those of you wondering what Edward Gorey was doing in the 80's, now you know.

For those of you who don't know, The Mikado is an opera. First created in 1885 by Gilbert and Sullivan, Gorey did his designs almost 100 years later in 1983

California Girls

I wish they all could be

California gurrrls

This is a story that begins with LSD

It was Brian Wilson's first experience with the drug that inspired the song California Girls

Twenty years later David Lee Roth comes out with a cover version in the mid 80's. It also becomes a hit.

Twenty years later the Dresden Dolls made a music video inspired by David Lee Roth's version called Shores of California

And then there is the most recent influence of California "Gurls" by Katy Perry.

There is such a huge contrast between each band/singer. It's interesting to think how each musician defines or redefines male and female roles.

And the fashion award for the best California music video goes to... David Lee Roth. I don't know what did it, maybe it was the day-glo orange suit, or the multi-coloured, striped, stirrup tights. However, Amanda Palmer's Russian hat with kitty ears needs to be mass produced.

The Hollywood Sessions

Boy, I'm really sad that the Hollywood life drawing sessions aren't going on Tuesday nights anymore at This Ain't Hollywood. Bring it back ladies! I miss drawing burlesque cuties.
